I'm interested in buying an inexpensive printer for my home, for simple word processing, and I've concluded that the II P (or the compatibles from Fujitsu or OkiData -- but they show no clear advantage) probably provides best my immediate needs. 0. Is the arrival of the series III next week likely to cause any price changes I want to know about? 1. I see it can be expanded to know postscript, but have heard that it's better to buy "something intended to be a postscript printer". What would be the most real disadvantages of upgrading the II P? 2. I assume that the II P runs just shy of its specked 4 pages/min. Is it substantially slower if you run it with postscript? 3. Can I trivially print text files from DOS on this beast? 4. If I decide that living with only Courier fonts is too dull, do I have any cheap options for font expansion? Do programs like Lotus MS and WordPerfect easily allow me to use soft fonts? Are there any public domain fonts? Is there a way to learn the font format and convert other fonts that I already have? Do software fonts slow the beast down? (I was only able to read about a month back, so forgive me if I'm repeating previous discussion.)
