We are in the process of selecting a postscript laserprinter to serve our group. A faster throughput than the lowcost 8 ppm is required, as well as a 500 sheet input/output tray capacity. Options like large sheet printing (A3 or Ledger) and double side printing are valuable to us. A higher resolution than the basic 300 dpi would be nice, but I am not aware of any printers that combine this higher resolution with the previous requirements. The printer-resident fonts should preferably be compatible with the traditional Apple LaserWriter Plus (35 Adobe fonts) A final decision would of course be made on purchase price and cost of ownership, in relation to these features. I currently have documentation on three competing devices, namely the DEC printserver 20, the QMS PS 2200, and the Dataproducts LZR 2665. Of course all the strong points of each device is shown in the documentation, but the weak points are surely left out. Can someone mail me particular problems, pitfalls, bad experiences with any of these three devices? Did I miss other competing products? Can someone send me a short message with experiences with the QMS printer local hard-disk option (for use as Font cache and if possible storage of often used postscript prologues ditroff/interleaf) Thanks for any help, Jos van Eijndhoven Eindhoven University of Technology The Netherlands jos@es.ele.tue.nl
