I've long held back from buying a LaserJet or any of the various clones because I haven't been that impressed with the range of hard fonts available, and the soft fonts look like a splendid way to burn a lot of disk space, and achieve PostScript slowness without PostScript flexibility. I now notice that the LaserJet III has 14 built-in raster fonts, and 8 built-in scalable outline fonts. Does anyone want to express opinions about those scalable fonts? When they say "eight", do they mean Times and Helvetica in normal, bold, italic, and bold italic, for a total of eight fonts? Since the LaserJet III price is now down below $1600 mail order, I can almost persuade myself to buy one rather than a PostScript printer, if the scalable fonts are available in a wide enough range of sizes, and don't look like crap. Also, what software packages on the PC support the scalable fonts? Does MS Windows? Does MS Word? Also, has anyone used the PostScript cartridge that HP sells? I believe it's real Adobe PostScript.
