[comp.laser-printers] QMS Lasergraphix Questions

mdeltoro@druco.ATT.COM (DeltoroMA) (08/10/90)

I have just recently acquired a QMS Lasergraphix 800 laser printer.

I am having some trouble getting it to work with my word processor.

The printer has version 3.0 (1.12 firmware) QUIC installed. The
parallel daughterboard is REV A.

I would like to hear from anyone who has used any of the QMS Lasergraphix
printers. If so, how should it be configured ?? What software has drivers
for it ?? Is it upgradeable ??

Thanks for your response.

Our lab has had for the past few years a QMS Lasergraphix 800 as well.
It is connected to our VAX 11/750. While the print quality is good and
it is a reliable machine having printed 2 - 3 times its expected
lifetime on its first (and current) engine, I have found that it is not
the most useful printer.
It is not upgradable to postscript. It understands the quic language
for formatting, and can also understand a few other formats like
Wordperfect. We use it to print from TeX using TeX and DVIQMS. We are
using an old version of TeX, so we don't know if there is a version of
DVIQMS that is compatible with current versions of TeX. We also print
out NCAR graphics on the 800.
I wish that I knew more about the printer, but the printer has been
here longer than I have and it doesn't have any documentation that I can
find. The QUIC language looks something like this:
^IMV0100010500^IMH0000008000
^IS404
^IL0600
^JM00000^T00000
Oh well.
