[comp.laser-printers] Buying new printers

doug@CLARITY.PRINCETON.EDU (Douglas Merrill) (04/17/91)

Hi to all...

Our Lab is getting ready to buy 4 new laser printers to replace our
old Apple Laserwriter Plus collection. We've heard nice things about
the HP LaserJet IIIsi (with extra RAM, and the PS chips), but we're
unsure if it would be appropriate.

We have a network of Suns and Macs, and we want the printers to be
able to serve all of the above -- our Laserwriter Plus collection
works for this, but they're *SLOW*. Anyway, we want RELIABILITY,
Postscript, and decent speed (we'd probably not buy 4 printers of the
LJIII-si speed, rather only 1 and 3 somewhat slower printers -- like
perhaps regular LJ III printers).

Does anyone out there have any comments? I'd appreciate any responses
(by e-mail, please, I don't get over here very often! If there is
sufficient interest, I'll post a summary to the net).

Thanks in advance!

Joke du jour:

Those of us interested in Case-Based Reasoning should write in to PBS,
asking for a new cooking show -- "CHEF does Beef 'n' Broccoli now", or

Hi to all...

My Lab is about to buy 4 new laser printers (to serve our network of
Suns and Macs). We currently use a collection of Apple Laserwriter
Plus printers for this task, but they are *SLOW* (particularly for
printing graphics). We had thought about buying 1 HP LaserJet SI, and
3 other LaserJet III's (all with 5 Mb RAM and the Postscript chips),
but we aren't sure that this is the best solution. We are looking for
printers which are RELIABLE, Postscript, and relatively fast (but
then, almost anything is fast compared to an old Laserwriter Plus!).
If anyone out there has any comments or experiences with any specific
printers in a similar situation, I would appreciate hearing them (by
e-mail please, I don't get to this group very often!).

Thanks for all responses! If there is sufficient interest, I'll post a
summary to the net.
