I am looking for width tables for the built-in scalable fonts in the HP LaserJet-III (i.e. the GC Times and Univers fonts). HP says the only way to get this information is to buy their font loader package. It bothers me that I should have to pay extra to properly use a font that's built into the printer. The PCL-5 reference manual gives all the gory details about the escape sequences, soft font formats, symbol sets, etc., but no width tables. If anybody has solved this problem, I'd appreciate hearing about it. Thanks in advance.

HP produces a manual titled "LaserJet III Printer Developer's Guide", HP Part No. 5959-6563. Along with the manual comes a floppy disk containing the metric information for the two resident fonts in Tagged Font Metric (TFM) file format. Also on the disk are programs to read the TFM and extract appropriate information. Instructions for use are in the manual. I don't remember the cost of the manual, but I don't think it was out of line. Jerry
