<...> The f-protocol for X.25/PAD links has been in operation now for some time, running satisfactorily. Two bugs have become apparent: 1. This is only a minor bug: transmission of the last packet of a file is not triggered (by a \r). So it has to wait for the Idle Timer to expire. This causes a short but unnecessary delay. This will lower the effective speed by affecting especially short files. Problem is that the fix makes it incompatible with the current f-proto! 2. A more severe bug: whenever due to failure of flow control a data override occurs it may happen that the receiving side sees the terminating sequence too early. Retransmission won't help then since no resyncing was provided. A complete new source with the above bugs fixed and in other respects tidied up a bit has been posted to net.sources. If you install it make sure it's done on both ends of the link at the same time! Warning: if your tty driver knows (terminal) paging you may have to disable it (in fturnon()). -- Piet Beertema, CWI, Amsterdam ...{decvax,philabs}!mcvax!piet
