In our system, we will occasionally have uucp fail to send a particular file.
It will retry the file over and over again and fail in the same place every
time. It terminates with the "failed, conversation complete" messages every
time. If the file is removed from the spool directory, the remaining spooled
files will transmit normally. The failing file can be transmitted by
encoding it first.
I have been collecting failing files in the hopes of finding some common
characteristic. I wonder if anyone else has had a similar problem with
uucp. We are running SCO Xenix SysV Release 2.1.1 on an IBM PC-AT.
The failure occurs while talking to a variety of systems including:
Motorola 6350, Sequent, Pyramid (all SysV) which leads me to believe:
a) The problem is specific to SCO Xenix, or
b) The problem is generic to SysV
