I was recently somewhat surprised when someone with whom I was talking about dataswitches told me that they were probably going to buy an Infotron (4000 series?) rather than a Develcon Dataswitch. The primary reason given was the faster buss rate on the Infotron. (Develcon's buss rate is about 2.4 mbps, and Infotron was supposedly about 50mbps. The user needed about 1000 connections, total 'lines' and 'ports', with connections up to 9600 baud each.) This brings at least two questions to mind: 1) Does Infotron have a product THAT WORKS that runs this fast? (Specs don't count!) If so, are the features roughly compatible with the dataswitch? 2) Is the 'tandem switching' for the dataswitch being designed such that there can be a faster 'effective buss rate' than the current 2.4 mbps, which limits the system to approximately 240 connections at 9600 baud? I have a hard time believing we were this far off in choosing the dataswitch. However, any comments on this would be greatly apperciated.
