DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO SEMINAR ACTIVITIES COMPUTER ANIMATION SEMINAR - Tuesday, May 19, 1987 Mr. Jerry Kopan of ARCCA Animation, Inc., will speak on ``ARCCA Animation''. TIME: 3:30 PM ROOM: MC 6082 ABSTRACT ARCCA Animation, Inc. is a company formed in February 1987 specializing in the production of computer charac- ter animation that is composited with live-action and miniature/model photography. The state-of-the-art pro- duction facilities based in Toronto will provide approximately three minutes of high resolution computer character animation each week to the Captain Power ------- ----- television series. Captain Power is live action sci-fi ------- ----- adventure that will air on a weekly basis beginning September 1987. The merchandising handled by Mattel Inc. includes an interactive toyline that allows viewers to participate in the adventures of Captain ------- Power. ----- ARRCA Animation has a staff of twenty full-time employ- ees. The Toronto computing resource is a network of 14 Series 200 and Series 100 Sun Microsystems worksta- tions, and 2 Silicon Graphics Iris 3130 workstations. The network runs Network File System. Computer anima- tion output is to 1" videotape and compositing is done through an Abekas A-62, 100 second dual digital disk recorder. ARCCA is interested in recruiting enthusiastic and talented graphics programmers and systems programmers who are interested in a career opportunity that will focus on developing tools and systems to support the production of computer character animation for televi- sion and feature films.
