Just to inject one more data point into the discussion on "hot" 212 modems: I have used one, in a metal case, for over three years now. It has never gotten hot. The case always feels cool, and the transformer gets lukewarm, but never hot. So I question whether an extremely hot 212 is "normal." Alan R. Kaminsky ...ihps3!ihuxv!aark
