Transferable Technology What it is, and how to achieve it by Prof. Judy Bishop of Computer Science Department University of the Witwatersrand Johannesburg, South Africa Abstract Computer scientists need to get their wares out into the market- place. If these wares are ideas born of basic research, then they must be packaged in such a way as to make them readily transferable into new software development. Such transferability of technology is hard to obtain. This talk looks at the speaker's experiences in three areas - software tools, data abstraction and distributed programming - and draws conclusions about what goes into making technology transferable. Mention will be made in passing of Ada, occam and transputers. DATE: Wednesday, April 6, 1988 TIME: 3:30 p.m. PLACE: MC 5158 Everyone is welcome. Refreshments served.
