[net.dcom] 9600baud

dpd (09/23/82)

I'm planning to rent a leased line from Ma Bell to provide 9600 baud
service to my home (~1 mile from my vax). Mother has offered to rent
me a 9600 baud modem for $320/month (times two, since I need one at
both ends). does anyone know of a cheaper alternative? please reply
via mail to the address above. thanks.

At work I have used asynchronous/synchronous converters from
two different manufacturers (Avanti and another that I can't
remember right now). I even used them once to log in for a few hours
over a pair of 9600 bps synchronous Local Area Datasets.
They seem to work fine.
