The Penril 212 autodialer now works successfully as a 'bidirectional' modem for the Develcon Dataswitch. It can, with no fancy cable mods, act as either an answer modem or dial out as a part of an outbound group. I have had the latest release of the software installed for about a week, and have found no major problems with it. The only remaining fix for it is that at the present time, it does not busy out a line at the 'command' mode. It only inhibits autoanswer. Consequently, if the line is hit in a rotary, the call is not passed to the next number. Realistically, this is not a major problem as the modem stays in command mode for only a very short time in normal operation. We are looking at some fixes, but I am not totally convinced that the fixes might not be as bad as the problem. If you have a switch and are interested in discussing this further, please feel free to contact me either via mail or phone. To my knowledge, this is the first and only autodialer which will perform these functions with the switch. Steve Taylor NC Educational Computing Service ...!decvax!duke!mcnc!taylor (919) 549-0671
