If you have bought or have used a "Micro Link 1200" modem (mfg'd by
U.S. Robotics) I would appreciate hearing your comments. How long have
they been making them? How well do they work? What was the delivery time?

This reply is being edited through a Micro Link 1200. I don't
know how long that they have been making them. I have had mine for about
a month now. I called up US Robotics, they told me that they prefered to
set up a dealer in town. The next day, they called me back, giving the
name of an Apple dealer in Lafayette (about three miles away). I went to
the dealer, and ordered the modem (Tuesday). They said "about a week".
That friday, they called me up, and I picked up the device. I installed
it that night, finding out that it was a dude. On monday, I returned it.
That thursday, they gave me a new one (new serial number, etc.). I installed
it that night, it has worked well ever since.
Initially, I had a very poor voice quality phone, and a glitch
character would appear every ten to fifteen minutes. Since then, I've had
GTE repair my phone. They said that they had to replace the line, basically
from my phone to the office. The modem has been, since then, the utmost
in reliability. I fully recomend it, for the following reasons:
	1. Over the phone, the personell were curteous.
	2. They did what they said they would do: They got in touch
		with me the next day.
	3. The shipment was prompt. Four days is very reasonable.
	4. When the device was found lacking, a replacement was made
without any hassle, fuss, or unreasonable wait.
	5. The device itself has very few parts. Three switches on
one PC board. Ten or eleven chips. They have the
		technology down to a science.
	6. It cost $459.00, a competitive price. The next week, I
heard about an ad for a similar device from UDS for
$425.00. I'm not about to quibble over 25 bucks when
I can get known (quite) reasonable service. California
Digital was most upsetting to me when I called them.
They quoted $495.00, when that month's Byte was asking
$455.00 (in their ad). No thanks.

I hope I have been some help.
