I am currently bringing up a network of Un*x machines connected via 1200-baud modems (running uucp) and have an interesting problem. The system being replaced used Racal-Vadic 3455's, which are 3400 protocol only (and not upgradable, according to the manufacturer). These modems were not autodial; they're auto-answer, manual originate. Racal Vadic modems in the 3xxx series can only pulse dial, and I need to tone-dial for various reasons. Therefore, I have to go to 212-type protocol modems (of which type Racal-Vadic makes a very nice autodialer called the 212-LC that does tone-dialing, by the way). My problem is: What do I do with all (eight or so) of those 3455's? They all work fine, and would be very useful for anyone already using 3400 protocol and needing an auto-answer modem. If there's anyone who has a use for them (and some money, of course), please let me know. Thanks. -Ken Greenberg {ucbvax | decwrl}!amd70!kfg
