[net.dcom] Develcon Dataswitch at 19.2K bps

wb (03/01/83)

We are running version 3.4 (controls high by group) software and are
experiencing problems using 9110A (Asynch Port/Terminal) SLIMs to
communicate at 19.2K bps. Some readers may remember a previous problem
we had with the 9110A SLIMs in that they were incompatible with the
3.4 software. At that time Develcon suggested hardware modifications
to the 9110A which made the boards usable at speeds up to 9600 bps.

At 19.2K bps, these SLIMs correctly transmit data from the Dataswitch
to the computer port (VAX 11/780 w/ DZ11) . However, data coming from
the computer port to the SLIM are subject to random bit errors.
These errors most frequently occur in bit 2 of the ASCII character
when bits 3 and 4 are both 1 (e. g. 'l' becomes 'n', 'm' becomes 'o', etc.).
The interface on the terminal side during these sessions is a 9114
(Switchable Asynch EIA) SLIM. It should be noted that this problem
does not occur on the 9114s when they are used on computer ports at 19.2K bps.

I have reported the problem to Develcon and am awaiting their reply.
I am curious as to how many other Develcon Dataswitch installations
are using 19.2K bps and if there have been any problems,
similar or otherwise.
