I have a whole lot of non-twisted, shielded, 6-core data cables running from my machine room to many geographically dispersed offices which are currently being used for connecting dumb terminals to our micom terminal switch. Can this type of cable successfully be used to support localtalk ?? (probably using phonenet). The intention is to connect some of these cables to an ethernet-localtalk bridge which will then connect to our laboratory ethernet LAN. The distances from the bridge (the Webster Multigate bridge has 4 localtalk ports ... plug for a good aussie product here :-) to the various devices (mainly postscript printers) vary from some 10's of metres to ~300 metres. thanx, ian -- Ian Hoyle /\/\ Computer Systems Superintendent / / /\ BHP Melbourne Research Laboratories / / / \ 245 Wellington Rd, Mulgrave, 3170 / / / /\ \ AUSTRALIA \ \/ / / / \ / / / Phone : +61-3-560-7066 \/\/\/ ACSnet : ianh@merlin.bhpmrl.oz.au Internet: ianh%merlin.bhpmrl.oz.au@uunet.uu.net
