I'm planning to get one of the SE/30, IIcx, and perhaps, the IIci -- if I can afford that too (but not really the IIx -- same power/performance as the IIcx but just bigger with more slots; not the II -- slow and big footprint). However, all the SE/30, II, IIx, IIcx and IIci come with only 1 internal drive, and I've heard that it can't have 2 internal floppy drive: I rather want to have a system with 2 internal floppy drive (if not possible on the SE/30 and II models, then 1 external and 1 internal) and an "external" hard disk (which can be used on both SE and SE/30 or the II models.) Currently I'm using the Mac SE -- with 2 800K floppy drive -- (which I shall give it to my family member or sell it, after I get one of the newer Mac.) Before I decide on which 40 - 60 MG hard disk to buy -- hopefully can be used on the Mac SE initially, then on the SE/30 or IIcx -- I am thinking of getting a third party 1.4 FDHD floppy drive, in order to use those big-file-applications, that already occupy most of a 800K floppy disk, leaving no more room for data on both drives -- while the 1st drive has a huge System File to occupy the whole disk.) Also, with a 3rd drive I can readily set up a DB to find out which brand/company has better and less expensive hard disk to buy. After getting the 1.4 FDHD floppy drive and then seek for a best buy of hard disk, I shall get the SE/30 or one of the II models and use both of them for the new computer. 1. I only find one third party company, PLI (Peripheral Land Incorporated), which manufactures 1.4 MB high-density 3.5" floppy drive -- they call it Turbo Floppy -- in the MacWorld and MacUser; and (I only find) one mail order company, MacWarehouse, carries it for $359.00 -- almost a 20MB hard disk. Is PLI a good company? Is their Turbo Floppy pretty good? Oftentimes I've heard there are problems on the Apple FDHD. Does the Turbo Floppy have the same problem on 800K as the FDHD? 2. Any other brand or mail order for 1.4 floppy drive? 3. Is it true that the SE/30 and all the II models cannot have 2 internal drive? So, if I want 2 drives, no matter 1.4 or 800K, one must be external? Hence, getting one now before getting a hard drive shouldn't be a bad idea? 4. On the PLI ad in MacWorld and MacUser, it says there are several utility software comes with it, but it doesn't mention whether: a./ what software it may and should come with to make the SE, SE/30 or the II models work with Turbo Floppy; b./ which version of System it must be (the minimum lowest number) to get the SE, SE/30 or the II models work with Turbo Floppy; c./ what hardware it may need additionally. Any information is very much appreciated. ***** J.T., P. O. BOX 11171, HON., HI 96828 (808) 922-6688, 732-4213.
