Bug Alert! SysEnvirons: Macintosh IIci 4Mb HD80 System 6.0.4 Finder 6.1.4 MultiFinder inactive Apple RGB Monitor using on board video, running in 8 bit mode HP PaintJet & Installer SW Using the HP Installer, v1.0, to install the PaintJet Driver: *Insert the Installer disk in the drive, open the installer. *Click"Install Printer" The printer driver is duly installed *Click "Install Fonts" The next step is to press the reset button, coz the screen is dominated by a flashing alert box, desperately trying to say "Sorry, a system error has ocurred" This is repeatable and consistent. The Fix: Set the monitors cdev in the control panel to "Black & White" Try again, and lo & behold, it works like a bought one. My best guess (and it is only a guess) is that this is related to the amount of Main Memory allocated for video, and someone is making facist assumptions about what constitutes available memory and where I might find it were I an installer program. Words like "low memory global" and "guidelines" spring to mind, but I don't know enough so I'll just shut up. Q: Is there a later version of the PaintJet driver available? (ie does HP know, and if so, have they done anything about it?) Q: Is this the stuff "Read Me" files are made of? (see Q1) This is not a flame, merely information. Top marks to HP for providing the hardware, and a good effort on the software too. (I dont' like having to work around a problem, but I'm glad that I could) Cheers _______________________________________________________________________________ Richard Jenkins Tel: (09) 351 7864 AppleLink:AUST0176 PC Support Group Fax: (09) 351 2673 ACSnet:cjenkinsr@mail.cut.oz Curtin University Perth, Western Australia psi%050529452300030::cjenkinsr
