Here at the Research Labs we've been working on a system in Turbo Prolog on IBM XTs, ATs, etc, and we're running out of memory. We have also had the problem of a number of people working on the same files on different machines, resulting in a number of similar files that are used by only one person each. We have also been a bit limited in our windowing and graphics capabilities. Seeing as we have on loan a Sun 386i, and have a few Mac IIs about the place and more coming in, we were thinking about hooking up the Macs to the Sun over an Ethernet network using PC-NFS, having the central files on the Sun, and using XWindows or something similar to handle the windowing and graphics. To save the Sun's memory this would be handled by the Macs, and if we ever got more Suns, we could then swap over onto the Suns with no incompatability problems. If you have tried something like this with XWindows, or any of the similar packages like Exodus or the new MacX for the Mac II, and have any advice you may be willing to share, could you please Email me at the address below or contact me some other way.
