Perhaps Bell should start a new service of digital phones (where what we have now are analog or voice phones) that allow greater than 1200 baud at comparable price. This would make better use of their 56Kb lines, and thus make them happy, and give us higher baud, making us happy. The major problem, of course, is the up-front investment to get this sort of thing started for the general public. (Designing the system, deciding how to fit it in with the voice system, advertising, etc. (Lauren??)). -- Karl Puder {sdcrdcf, presby, psuvax, bpa}!burdvax!puder (215)648-7555
