[net.dcom] 2400 baud dial-up modem available

dave@utcsrgv.UUCP (Dave Sherman) (02/09/84)

I have a brochure from Rixon for their R2424 modem, a 2400-baud autodial
modem which works on the public phone network, and has 212A 1200-baud
compatibility as well. It comes with a modular phone jack in the
standalone model, and is also available as a card.

The Canadian office tells me that price in Canada (including duty
and FST) is $2095. (That's Canadian dollars of course.)
So the U.S. price has to be under $1500 - I have no idea what it
actually is.

*** It seems to me that this might be a worthwhile investment for
machines which transmit a lot of news to each other long-distance. ***
Of course, the 2400 baud will only work if you have an R2424
at the other end, but it would function as a 1200-baud until
other sites upgraded.

Rixon's head office is in Silver Spring, MD, (301) 622-2121.
I have no connection with them.
