Capital U's consist of alternating bits along the  length of the character.
This has a tendency to throw the modem out of sync.  Vadics do it too, but
there the problem is limited to occasional hiccups amids a long stream of U's.
Does a 212 really loop like that?  Maybe it's looking for stop bits or 
something?  What happens if it receives more characters from the host?
