                       VAXcluster Working Group
                      Thomas J. Linscomb (Chair)

The pupose of the VAXcluster Working Group is to provide users'
input on the future direction of the VAXcluster product and facilitate
information exchange between users. The VAXcluster Working Group will
be meeting during the National DECUS Symposium in Nashville on
Tuesday, April 28, from 12 until 12:30 in the Donelson room. During
this meeting, we will plan the VAXcluster sessions for the next
national symposium, discuss the current problems with the VAXcluster
software, solicit VAXcluster System Improvment Requests and report on
Working Group projects.

For each DECUS national symposium, the VAXcluster Working Group
is asked to sponsor sessions. Topics for sessions can range from user
experiences, management tips, or configuration guidelines. A number
of these sessions have been given by Digital, but your support is also
needed. If you have a session that deals with VAXclusters, please let
the Working Group know. We will be glad to help provide information
and contacts that will insure a successful presentation.

With the introduction of the Local Area VAXclusters (LAVc), the
functionality of the VAXcluster has been extended to a completely new
group of VAX users. These new users have also encountered a
completely new set of problems. If you are one of these LAVc users,
this Working Group can be a way for you to share your experiences and
meet other users of this software.

The VAX SIG System Improvement Request (SIR) balloting is held
twice a year to give all DECUS members input into future improvements
of VAX/VMS. A portion of the SIR ballot is devoted to VAXclusters.
The working group will discuss past balloting and gather ideas to be
placed on the next SIR ballot.

Two of the current Working Group projects are a survey of
readers' reactions to the QUORUM magazine and users' requirements for
better time synchronization between VAXs in a VAXclusters. These
projects have already produced favorable responses from Digital and
during the meeting reports will be given on both. Your input to this
Working Group will go a long way in influencing the VAXcluster
product.
