Reply-To: <LEICHTER-JERRY@YALE.ARPA> The INFO-VAX mailing list appears to contain a fair number of errors at any given time. Further, whatever forwarding program is being used to get these messages out returns error messages to the original sender. As I'm a fairly heavy contributor, I get TONS of error messages - something like 9 this morning, and another two arrived as I was typing this. It's a real pain - especially when the error messages are things like the Marlboro mailer's frequent reports of running out of quota, which can get repeated once a day for three days. Since there are often errors that clearly indicate that some account is no longer valid, but not always for the same accounts, it would appear that, the "Please remove me from this list, I tried INFO-VAX-REQUEST and nothing happened" messages not withstanding, the list IS being maintained. It's so large, however, that there are ALWAYS invalid accounts on it SOMEWHERE. This is a request that something be done about this problem. I can't think of a single failure message from the forwarder that I would have missed had it simply been discarded. At times, I've been tempted to simply add an "ERRORS-TO:" header directing all errors to ... well, where? INFO-VAX-REQUEST? A "null mailing address" would sometimes be a handy thing to have. The main reason I haven't done this so far is that many of my messages are replies that also go to indivi- duals, and I WOULD like to receive error messages for those sends. I'm sending this to both INFO-VAX as INFO-VAX-REQUEST since I think it's of general interest. -- Jerry -------
