This is an opinion in response to message <1229432321078.35.EWR@XX.LCS.MIT.EDU> dated 14 April 1987 by Betsy Ramsey of the DECUS Large Systems SIG. She indicated a desire to select messages from INFO-VAX for publication in the SIG's monthly newsletter. I feel *STRONGLY* that any material taken from INFO-VAX and published elsewhere should (1) have the author's permission and (2) give the author credit. Further, I feel, the author must be asked, and permission given, in each case and any 'editing' must also have the author's permission. There is an informal nature about INFO-VAX that must be protected. No one should have to wonder where his words will appear in print, especially if they might be edited. The message to solve someone's problem might be suppressed, for example, by an uncertainty of spelling. Ms. Ramsey has a great idea - aside from the above qualifications. A DECUS newsletter can be an ideal mechanism to share the wisdom of INFO-VAX with those who can not connect directly. The authors can receive broader recognition and perhaps the DECUS readership can contribute back through Ms. Ramsey. --Bob Curley .__. ._ _.._ ..._ ___ _... .. ... _._. .._ __ _.. . .__ ...__ .... .__. __.
