[comp.os.vms] Connecting to MAIL11 mailer via DECnet

dstevens@sitvxb (David L Stevens) (04/24/87)

 Hello Netlanders,

HELP. We're trying to put together a new VAXmail interface here, and
I'm stuck trying to figure out how to connect to the MAIL11 mailer via DECnet.
Based on how the fiche reads I'm doing nontransparent Task-to-Task
communication The fiche shows that the object I connect to is:

        NODE::"MAIL=/<word of 0's><count><'count' bytes><16 - 'count' 0's>

Fine, but what (besides the 2 bytes of Zeros) goes in these stupid
widgets (<>'s)??? If I fill the entire extra 19 bytes with NULLS, I get
back a connect refuse message. Can someone please tell me what to specify.

Also does anyone have something (besides fiche) that explains the order of
how to send info via tha MAIL11 protocol. The flow as I know it is:

        - Connect to object
        - Send the original Senders name
        - Send the Recipient list (1 user at a time)(Read to verify each user?)
        - Send the actual TO list
        - Send the Subject line
        - Send the actual Mail text
        - Send single NULL when text is done.
        - Read to verify transfer (??)

Am I missing anything, read responces perhaps???. And on the reads, what is it
that I'm reading, and how many reads ??

Any and all help GREATLY appreciated...
