[comp.os.vms] vmsspr010.a - mandatory vms patch

george@vax1.UUCP (05/27/87)

If you call DEC and have problems getting the patch for "the security
problem mentioned at DECUS/comp.os.vms", tell them you want ECO
numbers 3, 4, and 5 for image SYS$LIBRARY:SECURESHR.EXE.

Now, the question. Has anyone else applied the above patch? If so, did
you find that programs that use the patched routines need to be relinked?
Better yet, did you run into any problems at all?

I had to relink gnuemacs; I believe the "access violation" error came
from a call to the C routine getenv which I think does a getuai system call.

As George points out, GNU Emacs must be relinked after the patch is
installed; other than that, we haven't run into any other problems.

I spoke to someone at the Colorado Springs Customer Support Center about this
last week. He told me that the patch had gone to the Software Distribution
Center for worldwide distribution and should be arriving at customer sites
any time now.
