I am searching for XNS implementations for Unix. So far I have heard about the one at Silcon Graphics and the one at ACC. Does anybody know of any others? Thanks! -- = lee@rochester rochester!lee =

<> One of the leading contenders for XNS running to a Unix system is Interlan. They make boards for Unibus, Multibus, Q-bus and others which support Unix and VMS. The boards are not in themselves intelligent, however. The software executes on the host processor. They also make what they call a Network Terminal Server. With these products you can have async terminals talking over the network and through the board to your machine. In August and September, they will announce several new products. New boards will be introduced for the above buses and operating systems. These boards will have an on-board 80186 processor and an 8586 Ethernet controller chip. They will come standard with 128kB of RAM, optionally 256kB. They will also introduce an IBM-PC board which will allow the PC to talk as a terminal to the host, but will also allow file transfer to/from Unix. It works under the MS-DOS operating system. One of the unusual things about the Interlan product line is that they are using a full set of XNS protocols, ITP, Courier, ClearingHouse, and the Virtual Terminal Protocol. Alas, they have not yet implemented InterPress. The above was preannounced to me by Interlan with no mention of keeping quiet, so I assume I'm not breaking any confidences. -- from the DMZ of Skip Addison The Office of Telecommunications and Networking Georgia Tech, Atlanta GA 30332 CSNet: Skip @ GATech ARPA: Skip.GATech @ CSNet-Relay uucp: ...!{akgua,allegra,rlgvax,sb1,unmvax,ut-ngp,ut-sally}!gatech!skip
