I'm sending this message for a user at my site: From: VAX01::RTB "Bob Baynes" 9-JUN-1987 15:58 Subj: Tape Utilities AMS receives magnetic tapes in various formats (e.g. tar, tp, EBCDIC, non-ANSI standard ASCII, etc.). Are there any utilities that can read these various formats onto a VAX? Is there one package that can handle all of these formats? Bob Baynes American Mathematical Society -------

Bob Baynes: My staff at JPL-VLSI has gathered a small collection of tape utility programs which run under VMS. The menu-driven system provides the capability to read and write (and convert between) TAR, EBCDIC and VMS formatted tapes, as well as read raw data off unlabelled tapes at various block and record sizes. A tape-to-tape copy proceudure also exists which is useful for making tapes of varying densities. This package is unsupported. It works under VMS 4.5. Most source is available in either FORTRAN or VAX11-C. I can make it available to interested parties on a non-support basis. There is on-line help for each function, but no detailed documentation. I'm also interested in your tape programs. Thanks, Jeff Jones JZJ@ORNL-MSR

We have made one modification to enable us to write alphanumeric instead of numeric VOL1 labels, but this may not be a problem for you.
