Does anyone know anything about bugs in the VMS driver for TU81+? The symptom that I got was not being able to perform a backup from tape to disk. The error message was an "end of tape detected" message. I assumed the tape was defective and got a replacement, which did the same thing. At that point someone told me that the driver had a bug and that things would work all right if I copied the savesets onto disk and backed up from there. I was able to copy the save sets successfully and complete the installation. Whatever the bug is, it does not prevent me from doing *any* restores from tape; I've only had it fail on one (maybe two) occasions. The problem is that I still don't know what the scope of the bug is (i.e. when I can expect to see it again). Anyone? Mary Malmros Smith College MANAGER@SMITH.BITNET

We had something like that happen to us a few months ago. When we tried to backup onto tape with our operator accounts it would say that we had a problem of writing to tape, so what we did instead was to use the SYSTEM account to do backups (or submit batch procedures that would run under the SYSTEM account).
