[comp.os.vms] setting VIRTUALPAGECNT

Recently Denis Haskin asked a few questions about setting the
VIRTUALPAGECNT parameter to a larger value. We run our with a
VIRTUALPAGECNT value of 800000. In order to do this we have to
boot the machine interactively with SYSBOOT and issue the command
DISABLE CHECKS from SYSBOOT. We also lowered the value of
MAXPROCESSCNT to cut down on the amount of memory given to the
system to keep the page tables for the processes. We have a page
disk with an 850000 block page file to work in. I would think you
can increase your value of VIRTUALPAGECNT by quite a bit without
really causing any problems. We do all of this for one huge program
that every now and then bumps up against the limits of the VAX
	architecture.
