Many thanks to those who replied with info on the operation of the LAT protocols. All LAT servers ( terminal servers and hosts ) broadcast their existence to the Ethernet at regular intervals. The keywords are 'Multicast'/'Multicast timer'/'Announcement' if you're looking through the documentation. At intervals as specified with the 'Multicast timer' value each LAT server broadcasts to the Ethernet the names of the services it supports. The LAT software at the receiving then compiles a table of services and Ethernet addresses - quite sensible really! I thought I'd better relay this information to avoid undue alarm which might have been raised by some of the possibilities which I suggested. John
