Due to a change in our communication needs, we no longer have a use for, and
would therefore like to sell, a DEC CPI32-A. For those of you who don't know
what it is, the CPI32 is the DEC half of an interface between a VAX (or, more
specifically, a unibus VAX) and a Northern Telecom SL-1 PBX. The VAX and PBX
are connected through a T1/DS1 interface, which is used to multiplex up to 24
full-duplex communication channels between the VAX and terminals connected to
the PBX, each of which can run at 9600 baud (or maybe 19.2K, depending on what
part of the documentation you read).
It's designed to look identical to a DMZ32 as far as the software is concerned.
Well, 99% identical. It works fine under VMS. However, if you would be using
it under UNIX, your DMZ driver may require a bit of tweaking, to account for a
few minor (undocumented!) differences between the CPI and a real DMZ; we could
fill you in on the details if you needed them.
This thing could presumably be used on a unibus PDP-11, if you were willing
to write a DMZ/CPI driver for whatever operating system you'd want to use.
One problem with that, though, is that you'd need access to a VAX to plug
the boards into if/when you ever needed to run diagnostics, as there are no
DMZ/CPI diagnostics that run on PDP-11s.
Also, it could presumably be used with some other type of PBX, provided the
PBX supported the message packet format that the CPI uses on the T1 trunk.
