We've just started playing with area routers, and cannot seem to make them talk to each other. Having installed the full-function keys and all, I bring one system [the 785] up as 1.13, and a microvax up as 2.1. They are both on the same ethernet; the circuits {q,u}na-0 both on with a cost of 1. Show circuit in NCP shows that they see each other. However DCL show net does not. What seems particularly odd is that show net (and in NCP, sho exec area status) shows the cost of the local area as being 1023, i.e. unreachable. It should, of course, show the cost of the local area as being 0, and the cost of the adjacent area as being 1. Using an Ethernet monitor to look at the routing traffic, the level 1 routing message from the 785 doesn't show node 0 (default area router) as being reachable. It looks like somehow area routing isn't quite turned on. As far as we can see in the documentation, all you need to do to enable area routing is set the node type to area, and have at least one circuit to an adjacent area. Are we missing something? All the other things we could think of [lines, circuits, etc] seem properly configured and on. _H* and Chuck Hedrick -------
