I have this interesting little problem.
I've had three micom np100 boards in my 8650 and none of them have
as yet passed the internal on-board diagnostics on power up. Micom put
the third board in and the same thing happened.
Micom says, and I believe them, that the np100 board is a
mature product (e.i., it works other places).
H o w e v e r !!!
I know another site with an 8600. When the np100 board was first
plugged into it the 8600 refused to boot. The np100 hung the unibus
which in turn hung the vax on boot. I was told by the MIS director
there that something on the board was running at the wrong speed and
that's what hung the bus.
Thus, it seems that there is some kind of problem with 86xx's and
the np100 board from micom. Micom took back the last board they plugged
into my machine and are going to give it back to the engineers to figure
out what's up.
Anybody out there have similar (or any) problems with np100 boards
on 86xx's? Any solutions to the problems?
