Hello. I am a member of the DECUS EDUSIG Steering Committee and as such have offered to coordinate two panel discussions at the Fall DECUS Symposium in Anaheim December 7-11. I know that this seems a long way off, but the reality is that scheduling for the meeting will occur in early August. If you are going to be attending the meeting and have something to share on the topics below, please send me mail or call me. I am HASSLER@CUA.BITNET or (202) 634-5373 EDT. As usual, DECUS cannot offer support in the form of travel, lodging, registration, etc. The abstracts for the two sessions are: 1) Privacy and Ethics in Academic Environments In an academic environment, privacy and ethics are of concern to everyone-- academicians, adminstrators and students. Panelists will discuss how their institutions deal with issues of computer privacy and ethics. 2) Allocating Resources, Creating Accounts and Distributing Them to Students Colleges and Universities have a "new crop" of users every year that require access to computer resources. Panelists will discuss the philosophies their institutions use to allocate resources to students (and faculty), the mechanisms they use for creating accounts and the methods they use to distribute accounts to users. If you know of a more appropriate person in your organization who might be willing to participate, please forward this mail to him/her. Thanks in advance. Ardoth Hassler Asst.
