[comp.os.vms] RAM disk for VMS?

dave@rosesun.Rosemount.COM (Dave Marquardt) (07/16/87)

I know there was a lot of discussion about RAM disks on this list/newsgroup
recently, but I didn't pay much attention because we didn't really have an
application.

However, we now have an application that looks like it would do well with a
RAM disk. We have a library on our Intergraph CAD system that gets changed
fairly often. We either don't want to or can't turn this library into a
shared library, so we can't install it (I'm not even sure if it's executable
code -- it may be a text library). Anyway, these libraries are accessed
often, and it would be nice if we could get them to sit in memory rather than
disk -- it would save a lot of disk I/O. It seems like a RAM disk would be
a good solution here (I'm sure there are people out there who will correct
me if I'm wrong about this. Feel free to do so. I'm always willing to
learn new things.).

So, does anybody out there have a RAM disk, or can anybody provide a pointer
to one that is either 1) provided by DEC, or 2) public domain? We might even
be willing to pay a fee for such a thing.

Please respond by mail or by posting to this list/newsgroup. Thanks.
