Hello! I am an "acting system manager" at the College of Veterinary Medicine (Virginia Tech, Blacksburg VA) and will, hopefully, be sent to some VAX/VMS System Management Courses in the near future. I'm interested in any comment/suggestions concerning the following, or other, courses : VAX/VMS System Management (Course # EY-2282E-S0) VMS Internals for System Managers (Seminar Code EY-6797E-S0) VAX/VMS System Performance Management (Seminar Code EY-3858E-S0) Advanced workshop in VMS System Management (Seminar Code EY-4830E-S0) System Performance Management and Capacity Planning (Seminar Code EY-1009E-S0) Does anyone have any comments/suggestions? Are there other classes or some other combination that might be better? Because of location, I'd like to take them in this order -- does anyone see any problems this might pose? We are on a fairly tight budget, so I need to be able to justify taking these classes -- besides the obvious "I want to know how to handle all of the system management tasks that get 'dropped' on my desk"! ;-) I currently handle all of the following : - Maintenance of User Authorization files - All Backups - Installation of Software Updates and Optional Software - Modifications of System Parameters and Device Characteristics, when needed - M/VX Management (our application manager) Actually, any system management task gets turned over to me! But, the above is a list of specific tasks that I have handled -- to help anybody know something about where I stand "course-level-wise"! ANY info would be greatly appreciated -- Thanks-a-bunch!
