SKELTON%UK.AC.LSE.VAX1@AC.UK (07/22/87)
A few days ago there was a question about sending mail to JANET ( the UK academic network ). I thought someone else would have replied but since I have seen nothing, here goes. There are three gateways into janet; from ARPA, BITNET/EARN and UUCP. I will give examples for each based on my mail address ( J.SKELTON@UK.AC.LSE.VAX1 ) but others should follow the same pattern. The generic form is J.SKELTON@VAX1.LSE.AC.UK which is recognised by some sites on both BITNET and ARPA, and may be routed through either gateway. Also, J.SKELTON%UK.AC.LSE.VAX1@AC.UK may work from some BITNET sites. The BITNET gateway is at node UKACRL. Mail should be sent to userid MAILER with a To: field in one of the above two forms. The ARPA gateway is at UCL-CS.ARPA although I expect there is a more up-to-date version of the name ( maybe CS.UCL.AC.UK ) and mail should be sent as J.SKELTON%UK.AC.LSE.VAX1@UCL-CS.ARPA The UUCP gateway is node UKC and hence the mail address is ...MCVAX!UKC!UK.AC.LSE.VAX1!J.SKELTON Variations of the above probably work from other nets; there may be other unpublicised gateways but these are the important ones.
