Mark Granoff asked for a way to force type-in onto a process. There was a program FORCE on, I think, the fall '83 VAX SIG tape which did this. I went through it and (by simply diking out the bits that failed) got it working on VMS V4.X and have placed it on one of the more recent tapes ('85 or '86, but I forget which just now) in part of a tree called [..RCA*...]. It runs fine on my machine (VMS 4.5) and will force random commands onto other terminals, either in DCL or in images. I use it to force exits on word processors too. I have only used it on DZ and DMF-like ports here, so it may not be quite right for LAT ports, or remote processes via set /host. However all the code is there, and not really very long. Keep in mind: I did NOT originate the thing, just did a little hack to get it running again on V4 since I got used to having such things under RSX and later VMS V3. It's a tool that belongs in anyone's toolbox. Needs cmkrnl, of course... you have to be REAL careful not to install such a beastie unless you have an almost excessively open and adult environment (AND trust it to be so a LOT). It can be used to force other processes to type ANSI pictures or text that'll reset their VT240 to puce on purple and then draw nudes on it, or other weird and not-so-wonderful things... but for getting an image to exit clean where you can't get to the terminal, there's nothing like it... at least not for free...
