Hello Info-vaxers! I know the following message is really not what this list is for, but when the idea occurred to me I just couldn't resist it. (In any case, having received 150+ infovax messages in the last 36 hours, I figured one more wouldn't be noticed in the flood). Also, virtually nobody in the U.S. gets Canadian newsletters so most of you won't know about this yet. The DECUS Canada Symposium for 1988 will be held in the great and beautiful city of Toronto ("my ho-ome town ...") the week of February 8-12. Our setup is a bit different from yours: there are seminars on Monday, sessions Tuesday-Thursday (a little less hectic than the U.S. ones), and then on Friday you have a choice of more seminars, several site tours, or hands-on workshops. This year's Keynote Speaker is Mr. Bill Hancock (those of you who have been to U.S. Symposia will no doubt recognise the name). Bruce Ellis will be giving seminar(s?) and possibly sessions as well. What this message is really meant as is a Call for Participation. I am co-ordinating the VAX/VMS Stream sessions, but I can pass info. on to the others if you are interested in speaking in another area. Registration forms can be obtained in a couple of months from the DECUS office: Francine Bellefeuille, Symposium Co-ordinator DECUS Canada 505 University Ave., 15th floor Toronto, Ont. CANADA M5G 2H2 Session abstracts *must* be received by August 31 (and preferably about 2 weeks sooner for me since I will be on holiday Aug. 25 - Sept. 8). Toronto really is a nice place, and the winter weather is rarely as bad as it is made out to be (a big city generates a lot of heat). If you can't make it to one of the U.S. Symposia, why not consider the Canadian one? Or both? We are expecting about 1000 people instead of 5000+, so it's a little smaller and more relaxed. Evening pub crawls are a popular item if you're interested; if not, there's certainly a lot of other things to do! If you would like a copy of the official "Call For", write to the above address. If you prefer, e-mail me and I will send you a rough outline of the form (the stream areas are a bit different than the U.S. ones). I hope to see some familiar names and faces next February (and some in my "mailbox" over the next couple of weeks!). Please come - you're all welcome! Thanks for your indulgence; I hope I haven't annoyed anyone too much. Any replies should of course come directly to me, not via the list.
