[comp.os.vms] new bells and whistles for SWING

PORTIA@asl1.ASL.HAC.COM (Portia 616-2635) (07/25/87)

hello, fellow SWINGer's,

Craig Young, a Standford student working here for me in the summer has added
a lot of features for SWING. For those who don't know, SWING is a program
from the DECUS tape which is a fancy Change Directory program, it displays the
directory in a tree format using SMG and lets you move from directory to
directory using the cursor keys. The original SWING also allows you to rename,
move and delete directories...

now, for more bells and whistles, the newest SWING does the following:

lets you specify which directory to start as the root
lets you specify the [0,0] directory as the root
accepts <> as well as []
has the FILER function, which does a DIRECTORY for the directory you are at in
a pop-up window, then you can scroll in the filer window, and perform the
following functions for FILES:

    delete file
    rename file
    move file to another directory
print file (using a logical name translation for qualifiers for print)
edit file (using a logical name translation or use callable TPU by default)
do a DCL command (communicating with the dcl subprocess using mailboxes,
not pseudo terminals, so you can't invoke interactive commands)

after exiting the filer, you are back at the SWING directory tree level, where
you can also do a DCL command.

I'll make the source available on the net in a few days. stay tuned.
