[net.dcom] 2400 bps full duplex dial modem

hes@ecsvax.UUCP (10/15/84)

The new Codex catalog (Fall/Winter 1984) has a 2400 bps
full duplex (over 2 wire dial lines) modem advertised. It
is also Bell 212 compatible (and apparently senses 212
protocol and automatically switches to that.)
  It comes in two flavors:
      Model 2231 $995
Model 2232 (with auto call unit)$1195
The address of Codex is 20 Cabot Blvd. Mansfield, MA
02048 (800)446-6336.
  (No connection ... standard disclaimer.)

Several manufacturers now make 2400 baud modems for the dial up network. NEC
has a 300/1200/2400 baud modem with auto dialer (Hayes style) for $1090 list.
Rixon has a 1200/2400 with auto dial for $1300 and they have a 300/1200/2400 on
the way for even less money. Concord has a 1200/2400 but I don't know the price
and I don't know if it also does 300.

We will be testing the NEC at UCSD on a backbone news link as soon as we get
some. It looks like it will be a winner. Rixon will announce their newest
product at Comdex in November. Western Scientific distributes for both Rixon
and NEC. I expect we will post some results on the net as soon as we have some.
