I want to compare our Cipher 990 tape drive NOVRAM settings with what other people are using. I would appreciate a one-line confirmation if you have nearly these same settings or I would like to know what is significantly different at your site. To see the settings, go to the front panel of the 990. Make sure no tape is mounted in the drive. From section 5.1.2 of the manual, push the WRITE ENABLE/TEST button, then DENSITY SELECT, then UNLOAD, WRITE ENABLE/TEST, LOAD/REWIND. You will see parameter setting messages scroll on the front panel. After each display, press LOAD to increment to the next setting. Here are my settings: 1. Serial port baud rate - not applicable 2. Host supplied parity - no 3. Echo Read strobes on write - yes 4. EOT mode - normal 5. Forward Hitch Enabled - yes 6. Echo 3200 bpi ID Burst - yes 7. option deleted 8. Abort Active Writes on Overwrites - no 9. Interface transfer Rate (khz) - 158.2 10. Default Density on Power-Up - 6250 11. Maximum Block Size (k bytes) - 9 k 12. Interface Ramp Delay - 3 ms 13. File mark Write Sync - yes 14. Read Error Retries - 3 15. Write Error Retries - 15 16. Read Error correction on - yes 17. Unit - 0 18. Lock out 3200 bpi writes - no 19. Remote Density Select enabled - yes 20. Report Corrected errors - yes 21. Allow one track down - no (this is called something else like allow single track errors) 22. 6250 Write current - 1305 23. 1600 write current - 3240 24. 3200 write current - 2205 25. 6250 RAW threshold - 339 26. 1600 RAW threshold - 740 27. 3200 RAW threshold - 205 28. 3200/6250 BPI select as 6250 BPI - no 29. Display ft. from EOT - no I am mostly interested in understanding numbers 3, 5, 9, 11, 12, 13, and 22 - 27.
