What do other computing centers charge for Vax services?
How do you handle charges for different size Vaxs (780, 8700,
etc.)? How do you manage cpu time limit accross different
size Vaxs.
At Battelle, our rates look something like:
Interactive
-----------
Prime time: $0.10/system second
$0.01/connect minute
Non-prime time: $0.05/system second
$0.01/connect minute
Batch
-----
Prime: $0.08/system second
Non-prime: $0.04/system second, for first 600 system seconds
$0.02/system second, for remaining
Disk
----
First 10 Mb: $1.00 per day
Next 100 Mb: .40
Remainder: .20
A system second is defined to be:
(scaled cpu second) + (bio+dio)/1000
A cpu second for a Vax processor is "scaled" to that of a 11/780
cpu second. The factors look like:
11/750 0.65
11/780 1.00
11/785 1.37
8600 3.85
8650 5.10
8700 6.00
There are various bulk discounts available, but the formulas are
rather long to include in this note.
