This is my first posting to the net so please be kind to me if I am asking a question that has been answered before. I am actually posting this on behalf of a friend who works for Company X. His company would like to sell a piece of (VMS) software for the VAX. They would like to insure that the software licensed to Machine X will only run on that machine. In other words, they want to prevent customers from buying one copy then putting it on numerous machines. I am sure this is a common concern. So what they're looking for is some way to programmatically poll the machine and identify it uniquely. I recently saw some articles posted which told how to identify CPU type, but this is not specific enough. Is there any way to uniquely identify a VAX? Is the machine's serial number obtainable programatically? Thankyou in advance for your help. If this question has already been discussed to death, please reply to me directly. Otherwise, please post your reply to comp.os.vms. Robin Goldstone uucp: {lll-crg,hp-lsd}!csuchic!robin California State University, Chico CSNet: robin%csuchico.edu@relay.cs.net (916)895-4420
