[net.dcom] Hyperchannel thru switches

My boss thinks that it might be a good
idea to link VAXes running Unix to
a Gandalf PACX switch via Hyperchannel.
Does anyone have any experience with or
comments on the idea???

Thanks.

I think your boss has been smoking something odd. A hyperchannel
is an incredibly fast and even more incredibly expensive networking
hardware. We connect our vaxes either by extending the distribution
panel cables and mounting them in the pacx cabinet (our favorite),
direct RS-232 and/or Short haul modem lines, and a combination of
serial line and fibre obtic multiplexors. Much more cost effective.
We use our hyperchannel for file transfer between the machines.
