[comp.os.vms] spawing to get accounting information

THURY%MCOPN1@eg.ti.COM (Denny Thury -- VAX System Sup -- 952-2066) (08/10/87)

In a recent submission, Mr. Christoph D. Gatzka stated:

"...If accounting is enables for both subprocess and process
termination the cpu time (added to the master process upon
subprocess termination) will be accounted twice (once for the
subprocess and a second time when the user logs out)..."

This is simply NOT TRUE!! VMS does NOT accumulate master and sub-process
accounting data into a single accounting record. VMS records ONLY those
resources consumed by a process, and that process alone, in its accounting
records.

I suspect that Mr. Gatzka is confusing this with VMS's pooled quotas,
where certain quotas (such as CPU-time) are shared by a master process
and all its sub-processes.
